The owners of this red brick 1970’s, multi-story pharmacy knew that they had the bones of a building which could transform their pharmacy into something special where they could deliver a differentiated community health care destination. 

Chris was after a design team who understood the needs of dispensary operations and could ensure that the compliance and regulatory side was managed easily as well as designers who could transform his space. 

The partnership between the owners and senior designer, Monika, produced something quite special and unique. In a retail environment which is cluttered with cookie cutter store design, Monika was given the scope to push the boundaries when it came to pharmacy. Rather than cover up and hide the industrial air conditioning, it was embedded into the design which has an industrial edge to it. This is softened by a balance of timbers, LED lighting, and a centrally placed large, diffused light. The owner’s passion for artwork is also on display with beautiful pieces scattered throughout. The depth of layers of planning and thought play out to create a warm and inviting health destination. 

From a business operations perspective, this area has several pharmacies including a discounter located 300m down the road. The owners are committed to providing a holistic approach to community pharmacy by focusing on a more personalised and preventative method of care. 

To support this, the pharmacy team took big and bold decisions about what categories and products they would range, replacing this space with consult rooms and delivering 16 health programs. Compounding has its own large, dedicated space and is a growing part of their business. Dispensary workflow was improved with the addition of robotics supporting the speed of dispensing and facilitating patient conversations. 

Working with an owner who wanted to create an amazing workspace for his team, to create a genuinely unique customer experience and invested in the areas which will serve him well for the future of pharmacy was a pleasure.
